Automotive Seat Part Special Customized Assembly Checking Fixture

The gage will be built in a manner that is as light weight and robust as possible using the following guidelines

a. Dimensional accuracy of gage to be equal to or less than 10% of the total part print tolerance for characteristics being measured.

b. All gages that weigh more than 25 lbs. will have lift handles provided on the base for ease of gage handling.

c. All gages that weigh more than 40 lbs. must have a wheeled cart provided for storage in addition to the handles as described above (see Figure 2). Carts should be the “Lipped Shelf” type so the gage will not fall off. If two or more gages are being built for the same part family, multiple gages may be stored on a single cart as long as the combined weight does not exceed the weight rating of the cart and all gages must fit safely on the top of the cart so as to avoid any heavy lifting from the bottom.

d. Fixture bases to be made out of aluminum, (if other than cast) shall have “jig feet”, 25mm high MIN, that provide reasonable stability and handling features where practical, and should not exceed 450mm x 500mm in size.

e. The gage must be free of burrs and sharp edges, especially in areas of operator movement. On rare occasions, a sharp edge may be permissible if it has been determined that a sharp edge is integral to the measurement accuracy.

f. A 3 dimensional origin shall be clearly identified on the gage and certification drawing. This could be in the form of 3 tooling balls, or 6 clearly marked areas; see fig. 2.1 & fig. 2.2 in the list of illustrations.

g. Part print datum, net and flush check surfaces, shall be clearly identified on the gage with 2.5mm” letter size minimum.
